Somebody’s
Inner Diva Raids Our CD (Guess who?) |
|
Every few
years the Babes need to sequester themselves in a recording
studio, gab and yak, play and sing, laugh until they cry,
and of course eat too “musician-y junk food,” and now, 16
years and 6 CDs later the Babes have found a stellar crew of
engineers and brilliant musicians at Amerisound Studios,
where they produced this lucky #7 CD, to begin another
chapter in Babe history.
Produced
(with conviction) by Hem and Haw Productions, this CD boasts
two new cast members, Philadelphia’s comic goddess, Deirdre
Flint, showcasing her wry wit and charm with “Cheerleader,”
“Boob Fairy,” along with the ever so smooth “Taxidermal
Therapy.” Nashville’s studio singing, magazine editing,
songwriter - Nancy Moran lets loose and pumps it up on
“Honestly,” while soulfully wishing us all “Unconditional
Love.” She also does a straight up killer version of the
Camille West/Scott Wodicka hit “Viagra in the Waters.”

Longtime
Babes, Sally Fingerett and Debi Smith are back with those
“Babe Tunes” they’re most known for. Sally accepts the
inevitable and heats things up with “Hot Flash,” calms
things down while pleading for “One Easy Day” and then finds
her balance as she honors ancestors and family with her
haunting “Faces on My Wall.” Debi Smith once again takes
that 5 octave range voice of hers out for a stroll with
“Walk The Walk,” while paying tribute to her walking partner
(her mom) with “Just Ask Your Doctor,” a hilarious diatribe
of pharmaceutical warnings that Debi co-wrote with her
mother Vivian Smith. This new project wouldn’t be complete
without Debi’s Babe hit “Pass it On” an ode to her son
featuring her magnificent Bodhran (Irish drum).

SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED
Shanachie 2002
w/ Camille
West, Suzzy Roche, Debi Smith, and Sally Fingerett
The title
refers to the unique process the group used to “assemble”
this project. Each Babe independently produced three tracks
for the recording in her own favorite studio. Sally and Debi
did their tracks in Nashville, using musicians known for
working with such legends as James Taylor, Martina McBride,
and The Judds. In NY, Suzzy co produced her tracks with
engineer/producer Stuart Lerman (Dar Williams), while
Camille worked with pals in upstate NY. Next, the group met
in Nashville to lay down the Babes' signature harmonies. The
project then moved to Washington D.C. where Engineer
Extraordinaire, Billy Wolf mixed and mastered. The end
result is a glorious collection of songs that reflects each
member's artistic personality, while retaining the
ensemble's collective voice.

BEYOND BITCHIN’ MORE LIFE
ACCORDING TO FOUR BITCHIN’ BABES
Shanachie 2000
w/
Megon McDonough, Camille West, Debi Smith, and Sally
Fingerett
The
Babes continue their musical journey through the joys and
dilemmas of everyday life--from love (My Kinda’ Man) to
information overload (I Don't Wanna Know) and uplifting
experiences (Viagra In The Waters). For this, their fifth
CD, The Babes turned to Grammy winning producer Jeff Bova (Celine
Dion, Billy Joel) to create a recording of remarkable
beauty, depth and wit. Recorded during a 3 week period at a
reclusive guesthouse recording studio in Massachusetts, the
gals employed East Coast great, T Bone Wolk (Saturday Night
Live Band, bass player for Hall and Oates) for guitars,
bass, and mandolin along with percussionist Shawn Pelton.

Fingerett
All
the fun, excitement and drama of a Four Bitchin' Babes
concert captured on CD, as the Babes returned to favorite
haunt, The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. No topic is too
sacred for these Diva's, from songs about being Dyslexic,
missing the legacy of family, leaving breakfast dishes to
become dinner dishes, to really, really bad swim wear. This
is what makes The Babes, The Babes!

ASK ME WHAT’S FOR DINNER, LIFE ACCORDING TO FOUR BITCHIN’
BABES,
Shanachie 1995
w/
Christine Lavin, Megon McDonough, Debi Smith, and Sally
Fingerett
These
girls just can't simmer down. This high energy disc includes
Chris' "What Was I Thinking," Meg's "Microwave Life,"
Sally's "TV Talk." and Debi's "My Mother's Hands." Produced
by Dan Green of Amerisound with the BABEs, this recording
proves that a great idea will continue to be a great idea.
Four different women, living in four different cities, with
different writing styles, can come together for harmonies
and fun, creating one "voice." For real fans, the scoop is
that Christine Lavin is wearing Sally Fingerett's jumper on
the cover because the airlines lost her suitcase on the way
to the photo shoot. They share clothes, songs, and laughs!

the gals realized that this traveling "group of girl
songwriters" was so much fun and such a hit at theaters and
clubs, they just kept on making records. This studio CD,
their second, includes Grammy Award Winning song “From A
Distance” performed by it’s author, Babe Julie Gold. This
CD also contains the songs that later became BABE standards,
such as Chris' "Bald Headed Men", Sally's Kerrville award
winning "Save Me A Seat" and BABE comedy hits "Butter," and
"Take Me Out To Eat."
