1. Bitchin' Babe Boogie (Marcy) |
|
This tour de force musical comedy group presents their 9th CD of songs that revel in the choices made by a generation who has "been-there-saw-that-drank-that-ate-that-came-back-to-kick-back-and-lay-back! Of course, the question remains: How can funny sound this pretty? Babe tunes come from the wackiest of viewfinders. With acoustic and electric guitars, mandolins, piano, bass, drums (both Jazzy and Irish Bodhran) and of course harmonies from heaven, these multi-talented gal pals take off with the rocking release of "The Bitchin' Babe Boogie," then offer a peek into the mind of an exhausted perfectionist with “Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda,” an absolutely organized scatterbrain in “Just in Case.” It wouldn't be a 4BBabes recording without a few statements from the heart, so there's romance in “Dim the Lights,” and moving generational pieces that affect us all with "The Table" and "In My Dreams." The Babes continue to write and sing about the issues we share, with tributes to our "Sisters," "Boy On Wheels," and the soon to a classic "You Came In Last." Celebrating the brilliant alternatives for mood swings the "Ukulele-Pick-Me-Up" offers an explosion of skill and finesse! Of course this musical collective brings you the latest in satire with songs dedicated to the passions and misdeeds of our age, in “Facebook,” “The History of Cheese.” Producers Sally Fingerett and Debi Smith of Hem and Haw Productions returned to the home of many Bitchin' Babes' projects, Amerisound Studios in Columbus, OH, to work with veteran engineer Dan Green. The Babes blend great fun, brilliant harmonies, and first class recording, creating the hallmark of every Bitchin' Babe project. Welcome to “Mid Life Vices” a celebration of “Whine, Women and Song!” |

Every few years the Babes® need to sequester themselves in a recording studio, gab and yak, play and sing, laugh until they cry, and of course eat too “musician-y junk food,” and now, 16 years and 6 CDs later the Babes® have found a stellar crew of engineers and brilliant musicians at Amerisound Studios, where they produced this lucky #7 CD, to begin another chapter in Babe history. Produced (with conviction) by Hem and Haw Productions, this CD boasts two new cast members, Philadelphia’s comic goddess, Deirdre Flint, showcasing her wry wit and charm with “Cheerleader,” “Boob Fairy,” along with the ever so smooth “Taxidermal Therapy.” Nashville’s studio singing, magazine editing, songwriter - Nancy Moran lets loose and pumps it up on “Honestly,” while soulfully wishing us all “Unconditional Love.” She also does a straight up killer version of the Camille West/Scott Wodicka hit “Viagra in the Waters.” Longtime Babes®, Sally Fingerett and Debi Smith are back with those “Babe Tunes” they’re most known for. Sally accepts the inevitable and heats things up with “Hot Flash,” calms things down while pleading for “One Easy Day” and then finds her balance as she honors ancestors and family with her haunting “Faces on My Wall.” Debi Smith once again takes that 5 octave range voice of hers out for a stroll with “Walk The Walk,” while paying tribute to her walking partner (her mom) with “Just Ask Your Doctor,” a hilarious diatribe of pharmaceutical warnings that Debi co-wrote with her mother Vivian Smith. This new project wouldn’t be complete without Debi’s Babe hit “Pass it On” an ode to her son featuring her magnificent Bodhran (Irish drum). |

For this, their fifth CD, The Babes turned to Grammy winning producer Jeff Bova (Celine Dion, Billy Joel) to create a recording of remarkable beauty, depth and wit. Recorded during a 3 week period at a reclusive guesthouse recording studio in Massachusetts, the gals employed East Coast great, T Bone Wolk (Saturday Night Live Band, bass player for Hall and Oates) for guitars, bass, and mandolin along with percussionist Shawn Pelton. |

With musical shout-outs to hardworking gal pals doing the best they can in "American Women," "Long Lonesome Road" and "The Happy Song," the Babes also celebrate the soft, "The Introvert Song," the demure, "(No Such Things As) Girls Like That," that mother/daughter connection, "These Are The Things," and the hysterical "Viva La Diva." Join the Babes for a royally hilarious musical journey to a magical place where chocolate is a vegetable, wine is in the food pyramid, shopping for shoes is medicinal, and a girl can safely admit that she wears 100% cotton underneath it all! Take this enchanting excursion to Diva Nation, where all songs are sung with pride, attitude, and terrific accessories. |
